In late 2021 I added OREO, this smoky black PRE stallion to the farm. He has just turned 2 and I'm doing all of his foundation work to prepare him for backing next year. He has had to learn how to control his excitement and stay with me.
Regalo had a medical emergency April 12th. I rushed him to UC Davis and unfortunately he had to be put to sleep. He had a rupture of his diaphram which is fatal. The vets had never seen anything like it and suspected he must have had a hernia that caused the rupture. That could be the cause of his bolting that I was dealing with. There was no way to know it was there and he had the best care possible. It has been a devestating loss.
Valiente my 2018 Devil's Garden mustang was sold about a week after Regalo passed. He went to a lovely family who are enjoying him as much as I did.
Jalaal my Arabian was retired from dressage in summer 2021. He had some chiropratic work since his back was locked up. He has been just a pasture pet and has been enjoying this slower pace of life. He is the big brother, father figure for Oreo my young stallion.
Beginning November 2021 we started to deal with predation on my sheep. I have lost 2 lambs and 2 adult ewe's through early April. The sheep and Donkeys are together but it appears we are dealing with a mountain lion. Nobody has seen it and we haven't been able to catch any sign of it but the kills are clearly Cat in origin. The Biologists have been out twice so far but we are doing all we can to deter any further predation.
So with the passing of Regalo, I started to ride Cielo again to work on my rider position while I wait for Oreo to grow up. Cielo has been very happy to be under saddle again which is nice. I've only popped on him a couple of times over the last 2 years since he had the issues with laminitis due to being Insulin resistant/Cushings. He is on daily meds for Cushing to reduce the chance of laminitis flare ups. He had an abcess earlier this spring which was good since I was worried it was another laminitis case. Once the abcess popped, he was back to his normal happy self. That was such a relief.
So now you're caught up on the major events that have been going on around here.
